Not every great Blues musician is bad to the bone...find the nurse that worked the graveyard shift in the maternity ward at St. Mary's Hospital on June 18, 1982 and she probably won't have that story to tell about young Matt Joiner.

How would they know the crying babe would become the musical pride of Colbert, Georgia? Joiner's music blends slick licks and gritty narratives, with familiar down-home cues like the hot dogs at Billy Meadows Station on Highway 72, and the solemn Sunday sermons of Brother Pike, in a sanctuary his teenage hands helped build called Little Bethlehem. Seriously.

That was back when...way back when. His Dad and Brother taught him a few chords. A music teacher at school(Doyle Lightfoot), a thumb-picking guitarist in the style of Chet Atkins, taught him a few more. He sneaked a few listens of Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 and introduced himself to secular music. Then his influences spread through to the styles of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Joe Bonamassa, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Eric Johnson, and before long he was playing everyday, challenging his ear, writing licks and melodies, all the while repairing broken cars from Japan, and learning the plight of the working artist.

Expanding his horizons in 2012, adding a rock solid rhythm section (drummer Mark Turiano, bassist Clay Hinson, and keyboardist Natalie McClure) The Matt Joiner Band independently released a solo debut album "Back When", produced by John Keane (REM, Widespread Panic, Cowboy Junkies) and began touring the southeast relentlessly, building an impressive fan-base and reaching audiences with his critically acclaimed blues-rock style. Releasing a new album, "On a String", in 2015, the band's sound is evolving.

Joiner has played to enthusiastic crowds at venues around the South including the Georgia Theatre, 40 Watt, The Melting Point, AthFest in Athens, GA. He has also shared the stage with local acts like Rollin' Home, Clay Leverett & Friends, The Rattlers, and national artists including Johnny Winter, Mother's Finest, Drivin' n' Cryin', Matt Schofield and the legendary Geoff Achison.

The Matt Joiner Band, based out of Athens, Georgia, has one foot in the garage with their sights set on arenas coast to coast. MJB is guitar driven, flavored with keys, plenty of support from the low end and backed by a solid groove. They add their flavor of bluesy rock guitar to the music scene with hopes that it will make its way to your playlist.
